Manually Configure Email

All email client software requires the same basic information. The following settings should be used for all email software:

Email Address: Your requested email name (username@thriftinternet.com)

Email Server Type: POP3

Incoming Email Server Name: mail.thriftinternet.com

Outgoing Email Server Name: mail.thriftinternet.com

Account Name: Your unique username (the name to the left of the "@" sign in your email address).

Password: Your requested password (case sensitive!).

Important Note! Our outgoing email server requires authentication. You need to indicate in your email software that outgoing server authentication is required, and use your account name & password.

Most Internet users use Microsoft Outlook Express for their email client, mainly because it is free and comes installed with most versions of Windows. Therefore, the application specific instructions for Outlook Express are provided below.

Outlook Express Configuration Instructions

1. Open Outlook Express

2. Click on the Tools drop-down menu, and then click on Accounts. You should get a box that looks like this:

2. Select the Mail tab, as indicated above. Remove any email profiles that you do not recognize or that are old email accounts that you won't be needing anymore.

3. Click Add and then click Mail. You should get a box that looks like this:

4. In the "Display name" box, enter your name (normally your first & last name or your business name). This is the name people will see when they receive email from you, so it should be capitalized & spaced so it looks nice. After entering your name, click Next. You should see a box like this:

5. Enter your email address, as indicated above (substituting your unique username for "username", of course). Click Next. You should get a box like this:

6. Select POP3 as your email server type, and then enter mail.thriftinternet.com for both the incoming & outgoing email servers, as indicated above. Click Next. You should get a box like this:

7. Enter your unique username in the "Account name" box, and also enter your password. It is convenient to check the "Remember password" box.

Do not check the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" box. If you check that box you will not be able to get your email!

Click Next. You should get a box like this:

8. Click Finish. You should be returned to the account setup box, and your new account should be listed like this:

9. Verify that it says "mail (default)" under the Type column. If your thriftinternet.com account does not say (default) then click the Set as Default button.

10. Now click on Properties. You should get a box like this:

11. Click on the Servers tab. You should get a box like this:

12. Under Outgoing Mail Server, click the box next to "My server requires authentication" so that a check mark appears in the box, as indicated above. By default, the Account name & password for this email profile are automatically entered into the Settings. You may click on the Settings button to verify that if you wish.

Note that you must use the mail.thriftinternet.com outgoing email server for all outgoing email. You can receive email from any domain you like, but you must still use our outgoing email server to send mail. For every email account you must:

a) Specify mail.thriftinternet.com as your outgoing email server.

b) Check the "My server requires authentication" box.

c) Click the Settings button and enter your thriftinternet.com account name & password.

13. Click OK. You should be returned to this box:

14. Click Close
