All email client software requires the same
basic information. The following settings should be used for all
email software:
Email
Address: Your requested email name
(username@thriftinternet.com)
Email
Server Type: POP3
Incoming Email Server Name: mail.thriftinternet.com
Outgoing Email Server Name: mail.thriftinternet.com
Account Name: Your unique username (the name to the left of the
"@" sign in your email address).
Password: Your requested password (case sensitive!).
Important Note! Our outgoing email server
requires authentication. You need to indicate in your email
software that outgoing server authentication is required, and use
your account name & password.
Most Internet users use Microsoft Outlook
Express for their email client, mainly because it is free and comes
installed with most versions of Windows. Therefore, the application
specific instructions for Outlook Express are provided below.
Outlook Express Configuration Instructions
1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click on the Tools drop-down menu, and then
click on Accounts. You should get a box that looks like this:

2. Select the Mail tab, as indicated above.
Remove any email profiles that you do not recognize or that are old
email accounts that you won't be needing anymore.
3. Click Add and then click Mail. You should get
a box that looks like this:

4. In the "Display name" box, enter your name
(normally your first & last name or your business name). This is
the name people will see when they receive email from you, so it
should be capitalized & spaced so it looks nice. After entering
your name, click Next. You should see a box like this:

5. Enter your email address, as indicated above
(substituting your unique username for "username", of course).
Click Next. You should get a box like this:

6. Select POP3 as your email server type, and
then enter mail.thriftinternet.com for both the incoming & outgoing
email servers, as indicated above. Click Next. You should get a box
like this:

7. Enter your unique username in the "Account
name" box, and also enter your password. It is convenient to check
the "Remember password" box.
Do not check the "Log on using Secure Password
Authentication" box. If you check that box you will not be able to
get your email!
Click Next. You should get a box like this:

8. Click Finish. You should be returned to the
account setup box, and your new account should be listed like this:

9. Verify that it says "mail (default)" under
the Type column. If your thriftinternet.com account does not say
(default) then click the Set as Default button.
10. Now click on Properties. You should get a
box like this:

11. Click on the Servers tab. You should get a
box like this:

12. Under Outgoing Mail Server, click the box
next to "My server requires authentication" so that a check mark
appears in the box, as indicated above. By default, the Account
name & password for this email profile are automatically entered
into the Settings. You may click on the Settings button to verify
that if you wish.
Note that you must use the
mail.thriftinternet.com outgoing email server for all outgoing
email. You can receive email from any domain you like, but you must
still use our outgoing email server to send mail. For every email
account you must:
a)
Specify mail.thriftinternet.com as your outgoing email server.
b) Check
the "My server requires authentication" box.
c) Click
the Settings button and enter your thriftinternet.com account name
& password.
13. Click OK. You should be returned to this
box:

14. Click Close
